Dont miss the last GALLON DRUNK UK gig this year- this Wednesday July 16, 2008 at Corsica Studios, Elephant and Castle! Dont miss it...see link below for ticket info, etc.

May 4th 2008

Corsica Studios presents a special musical-visual performance featuring Lydia Lunch, James Johnston and Ian White in celebration of the launch of Lydia’s new book The Gun is Loaded forthcoming from Black Dog Publishing London UK. The Gun is Loaded is the first volume of its kind to document Lydia’s visual art.

Spanning nearly two decades of work within its 250 pages, it includes images from her portrait series of street urchins in New Orleans; her investigations into the haunted ruins of Pennsylvania and West Virginia; her intimate portraits of murderous lovers and her most recent self-portraits and photomontages. Infused with her apocalyptic vision of America’s spiritual collapse and the brooding sexuality which has marked much of her work, The Gun is Loaded is rich in visuals and text, demonstrating Lydia’s continued presence at the autopsy of American society and the forefront of its vital underground culture.

To mark the release of this landmark work, Lydia will present material from her new cd - The Ghost of Spain, a psychoambient musical journey through the troubled history of the country she now calls home. The enduring themes of fractured memory, sex, sorrow, rage and war will be illuminated by James Johnston and Ian White. James, the founder and multi-instrumental force behind Gallon Drunk, and percussionist Ian White are past masters at musical mood manipulation and the perfect mediums for Lydia's deeply affecting Spanish séance.

Seasoned collaborators, Lydia recently contributed vocals to the track Doughboy on Gallon Drunk's limited edition 7-inch vinyl release of their blistering single Grand Union Canal. Performing live together, the incendiary dynamic between the Drunk boys' musicianship and Lydia's muse promises an aural conflagration. Photographs from The Gun is Loaded will be projected throughout the evening, creating a provocative atmosphere of seductive and haunting images, inviting the voyeur into the private dreams, desires and obsessions of one of America’s most fearless daughters. The Gun is Loaded will be available for purchase on the night of the show. Go to www.corsicastudios.com for more info!

CLICK HERE to read about the recent movie CLEAN, the Cannes award winning movie that James Johnston appears in, as "Lee Hauser" - opening in September in US and UK!

New Bender date just confirmed - 24th March 2005 supporting Mercury Rev at the Elysee Montmartre Paris, please note the early stage time of 6:40!

For those just tuning in, Bender is the latest project featuring James Johnston, Steve Gullick and Geraldine Swayne...read below for more or check out www.bend.tv for details and releases!

Q Magazine just reviewed the ...Bender CD: "Though Nick Cave's most recent album ran to two CDs, its still possible to make music for the black of heart on a rather more restricted scale. The project of photographer Steve Gullick, sometime Bad Seed James Johnston and Geraldine Swayne... Bender make short instrumental sketches that have a cumulative effect, rather like a spectacularly gloomy episode of The Fast Show. A lot of gothic tools are present - rattled chains, low moans - but strangely there is still reason here to be happy about it."

FEBRUARY 2005

Gallon Drunk re-releases are still moving along...there's newly found live material from a Finsbury Park festival that will be included so stay tuned.

Meanwhile there is a Bender gig at the Corsica Studios in Elephant and Castle London on the 11th of March, and they will support Mercury Rev in London 12th and Southampton 13th (details on http://www.bend.tv) ...Bender NEW ALBUM '...bender' on TV RECORDS...details on their site also.

THE NEW ALBUM!
Gallon Drunk return with the release of their fifth album, 'Fire Music'. Recorded over a period of two months at Verdict Studios, a

residential studio in a remote Nottinghamshire farmhouse, 'Fire Music' sees Gallon Drunk deliver their most complete and

accomplished work to date. Following recent work on various movie soundtracks and tv themes, Gallon Drunk now release the

atmospheric and epic album, 'Fire Music'.

From piano led 60's styled melancholy (Just One Word) to funkadelicised soul-stew (Out Of Sight), the groups disparate
influences are distilled through the unmistakable and influential sound of Gallon Drunk, to create a colourful, absorbing, and mature

collection of songs and instrumentals. Singer and songwriter James Johnston: "Fire Music is the first time we've ever had the

opportunity to really work on the songs, both on the instrumentation and the arrangements. For example the late addition of Gillian

Stokes' vocals on 'Things Will Change' and various other tracks brought a whole new drama to the record, considerably

complimenting the live spontaneity of the recordings."

From the stark drama of the title track, 'Fire Music', to the Eastern-inflected groove of 'Forget All That You Know' the songs are carried by the fluid bass of Jeremy Cottingham, the power of Ian White's drums and Terry Edwards searing brass.

Utilising a wide palette of sounds, from autoharps, wah-wah trumpet, Morricone-esque harmonica and layers of guitar and organ,
Gallon Drunk take the piano-based songs into a filmic  sonic soundscape. This approach is also brought to bear on the album's one

cover version, 'Series Of Dreams' written by Bob Dylan, where the hymnal nature of the song is adapted into a driving, other-worldly

chorus of delayed guitars and organs. Johnston: "We were at real pains to capture as much atmosphere as possible, whether using

effects or the sound of creaking piano pedals, everything was left in if it was part of the performance. I really wanted something that

had an incredibly live feel and tension, but that also had mood and ambience."

Since the early nineties Gallon Drunk have released a string of critically acclaimed albums including the Mercury-prize nominated
'From The Heart Of Town'. Currently working with legendary film director Ken Russell (The Devils, Women In Love etc),

multi-instumentalist James Johnston has led the group for ten years as well as working with, among others, Barry Adamson and Nick

Cave, along with providing music for theatre, Imax film, television, and has also completed two feature film scores, 'Black Milk' and

for Sky films, 'The Most Fertile Man In Ireland'.

The New Album will be released in February 2002. Stay tuned.

Gallon Drunk are:
James Johnston - vocals, guitar, keyboards, harmonica.

Ian White - drums, percussion.

Terry Edwards - saxophones, trumpets.

Jeremy Cottingham - bass, guitar.
